Water Vocabulary
Agricultural Use - this is water that is used to irrigate crops, water plants, give to animals etc...
Aquifer - an underground water source found by drilling/digging far into the earth
Aqueduct - a channel or passage that carries water to or away from something
Commercial Use (Industrial) - this is water that is used in factories or manufacturing
Conservation - this means to try to save water
Drought - a dry period when there is no water available- usually a river or lake has dried up
Flood - when waters rise very high above ground level and overflow, they and wash away materials or leave behind unwanted materials
Freshwater - this is water that does not have salt in it and is seen as usable for human activities
Groundwater - the water that has seeped down underground and is the source of springs, wells and aquifers
Residential Use (Domestic)- this is all the water that is used in your home for showers, watering the grass, cooking, cleaning etc...
Run-off - water, debris, material that flows down into lower ground or water
Surface Water - the water that sits above ground - ponds, lakes, rivers...
Water Crisis - when there is a serious problem with water which could be not having enough, contaminating water, flooding, drought, water diseases, no access to water etc...
Water Cycle - the circulation of all the earth's water including evaporation, condensation, rain etc...
