Forestry Vocabulary
Clear Cutting - a method used to completely chop down all trees in a specific area
Coniferous - a forest that is made up of cone bearing trees i.e. pine, fir, spruce
Deciduous - a forest made up of trees that shed their leaves annually
Deforestation - clearing away an area of forest
Forest Fires - a time when many trees are burned down
Forestry - process of planting and taking care of treed areas
Illegal logging - cutting down, removing and selling trees that you do not have the right to take
Leaf/Plant Litter - a mixture of dead plants, leaves, soil that covers the ground
Logging - the process of cutting down trees and taking them to the sawmill
Lumber - wood from a tree that has been cut down and is ready to be sold
Mangroves - a tropical tree or shrub that grows near shores in shallow waters and has its roots above ground - helps to protect against flooding
Mill - a factory that will make paper or pulp
Pulp - a soft, moist mass that will be converted into paper
