Natural Resources Questions
1. What are natural resources?
2. How much do you know / care about natural resources? Why?
3. How much of our natural resources are we using - is it sustainable?
4. What are the most valued and used resources in our world?
5. How have resources been distributed by nature/man amongst the world?
6. What methods/technology is used to extract resources?
7. What is the process to make resources usable?
8. What solutions or future actions must be taken to conserve our resources?
** 9. What are the conflicts/problems/issues related to natural resources? illegal mining, overfishing, consider working conditions with no labour laws, harsh mining conditions, wages, waste & pollution created, illegal smuggling, lack of education & training, child labour, mine accidents, exposure to dangerous metals, rebel war groups in control, safety equipment & procedures, taking over small towns, destroying nature and protected lands, corrupt government support ... Choose one issue and find an interesting news article (or magazine article - save the website address). First, read through and analyze the article. Then, summarize (in your own words) and be able to explain the article to the class. After summarizing you will explain(in your writing) what suggestions/solutions exist for this problem and the steps needed to fix it. You will need to hand in your summary and suggestions to this problem - as well as the class solutions. When looking for an article you may need to try looking related to a specific resource such as gold or metals or silver or rainforest, and say the problem you are looking at i.e. mining, labour laws, pollution from lumber factory....
